Born in Buenos Aires, Rodolfo Zalla studied architecture. His true passion was drawing however, and at age 18, he joined the studios of Carlos Clémen. He began his professional career in 1953, and cooperated on several magazines, such as Patoruzito, Hora Cero and Frontera. Due to the Argentine publishing crisis in 1963, Zalla went to Brazil, where he started out working for the Barbosa Lessa agency. He illustrated romance stories, as well as the daily 'Jacaré Mendonça' strip. Soon afterwards, he joined the publishing house Editore Taika, where he drew the pre-historical series 'Torgo', as well as horror and war stories.

From 1967, he has illustrated numerous educational books, and from 1978, he cooperated on the collection 'Histoire de la Monde en BD' of the French publisher Larousse. From 1972, he worked for Abril, where he illustrated 'Zorro' and stories with Hanna-Barbera characters. Zalla founded his own publishing house, D-Arte Ltda, in 1981, and launched the magazines Johnny Pecos, Calafrio and Mestres de Terror.
