Lex Overeijnder started his career in the early fifties, drawing 'Willie Beer' comics in Revue magazine, from 1952 to 1958. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he also made 'Lappy Loup' ('Lappy Knijm') for the newspaper Trouw, 'Flip en Flop' in Provinciale Dagbladpers, 'Floske' in Wereldkroniek, 'Daantje Durf' and 'Cardi en Karon' for Dafbode. Overeijnder was one of the earliest national illustrators of covers for the Dutch Donald Duck weekly (presumably two cover in 1953, another one in 1958).

For Het Parool, he made a comic strip version of the television puppetshow 'De Fabeltjeskrant' from 1969. Then came 'De Gabbers' and 'De Kroniek van Grondel' in De Telegraaf, 'Peter Pluim' in Eva, and 'De Froets', which he had made as a TV animation earlier on, in NCRV-gids. Other titles the last five 'Pinkie Pienter'-books, originally created by J.H. Koeleman.
