Kiko

Roger Camille, better known as Kiko, was born in Héliopolis, Egypt. He did his first cartoons and illustrations for a newspaper in Cairo. Like many other Levantine inhabitants, he left the country in the early 1960s. He stayed in Canada for a while and then settled in Belgium, where he went to work in the studio of André Franquin for a while.

He began a collaboration with the magazine Spirou, where he started out doing the series 'Djinn' together with scriptwriter Jacques Devos in 1964. He also made some mini-books. For a Lebanese newspaper, he created the "1001 Night" character 'Foufi'. Most of the scripts for Kiko's Lebanese production were by Franquin.

It was in 1965, when he introduced 'Foufi' in the magazine Spirou. The adventures of this little Persian boy with his flying carpet appeared in Spirou until 1979. From then on, Kiko has mainly been active in advertising, and created among others the lion 'Max' for Motta ice cream.
