Al Hubbard was a "funny animal" artist for Dell Publishing. There he created numerous comics with Disney characters, such as 'Chip'n'Dale', 'Bambi', but especially 'Scamp'. In the 1950s he was one of the first artists who often used the character of Jiminy Cricket (from the 'Pinocchio' movie) in his Disney work. Hubbard has illustrated several comic adaptations of Disney films, such as 'Jungle Book', 'The Lady and the Tramp', 'The Aristocats' and 'Peter Pan'.

At the same time, he took over the artwork of the Warner Brothers 'Mary Jane & Sniffles' series from artist Roger Armstrong. His other Warner credits include 'Sylvester' and 'Suzanne'. In 1963 he and writer Dick Kinney introduced cousin 'Fethry Duck' to the 'Donald Duck' universe. He drew Disney comics until 1979. He also produced 'The Adventures of Peter Sweat' (giveaways from 1950 to 1956) and 'Andy Hardy'.

As for the other licensed work for Dell, he illustrated 'Bertie Bird', 'Tom and Jerry', 'Big Spike and Little Tyke' (MGM) and 'Andy Panda' (Walter Lantz). In the 1940s and early 1950s, he also did funny animal comics for Nedor/Standard, ACG/Creston and DC/National ('Tito and his Burrito'). Prior to his comics work, Hubbard was an animator at Disney from 1938 to 1941.
