After finishing his education in Communication in Eindhoven in 2004, Maarten Gerritsen was ready to begin his career as copywriter or concept developer in the advertising field. However, he found employment with the Studio Jan Kruis through Rob Phielix and Gerben Valkema. There, he works on the family comic 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen', amidst his fellow studio workers Phielix, Valkema, Peter Nuyten and Michiel van de Vijver. Gerritsen is mainly involved in the pencilling of the weekly page for Libelle.
In addition to his work for Studio Jan Kruis, Gerritsen does freelance assignments. He has cooperated on the Dutch horror film production 'Horizonica' as storyboard artist and concept artist. His interest in horror is also showcased in the short story 'Het Kerkhof', his contribution to Menno Kooistra's 'Bloeddorst' project. Gerritsen has furthermore contributed a story to Myx magazine with Pieter van Oudheusden, and is active as freelance comic artist and illustrator for among others Roetsj magazine, often working at the Noodweer studio.
