Before World War II, Gérard Alexandre, who signed his work with the name Al. G., worked as an advertising illustrator. After the War, he took up drawing again and associated himself with La Société Parisienne d'Édition (S.P.E.). After creating some illustrations in Fillette, he took over the artwork of the series 'L'Espiègle Lili' in 1947, from creators Jo Valle and André Vallet. Alexandre worked in collaboration with scenarists Bernadette Hiéris and Paulette Blonay, introducing text balloons to the comic series. Apart from 'L'Espiègle Lili', Al. G. created a French adaptation of Bob Kay's 'Miki'. In 1960, he started a French version of contemporary Cinderella, 'Aggie', based on the American version created by Hal Rasmusson. But it is the series 'L'Espiègle Lili' that Alexandre worked on most of his life. He drew the series for Beaux Albums de la Jeunesse Joyeuse until his death in 1974.
