Dan Adkins has worked as a comics artist for comic books and science fiction magazines. Born in Midkiff, West Virginia, Adkins worked as a draftsman when he was serving in the Air Force in the 1950s. He launched his own fanzine, called Sata, in 1956. During this period, he also contributed to other fan publications like Amra, Vega and Xero. He settled in New York City, where he freelanced for science-fiction magazines and several commercial studios.

Adkins started his career in comics in 1965, when he joined Wally Wood's studios. There, he cooperated with Wood on stories for the Warren magazines Eerie and Creepy, and also worked on 'T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents' and 'Sub Mariner'. He also was an assistant on 'Rip Kirby', originally created by Alex Raymond. During his career, he worked on many Marvel titles, including 'Dr Strange'. Other publishers he worked for are Charlton, DC ('Aquaman', 'Batman'), Dell, Eclipse, Harvey and Western Publishing. More recently, he has worked for Parker Brothers.
